Application Instructions

General Guidance Prior to Completing the Application

  • To determine if you are eligible to apply for a .pharmacy domain, review the Standards/Policies section.
    • If you are currently accredited through the Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites (VIPPS) program, do not proceed with filling out the application. Please email info@safe.pharmacy for information on requesting a .pharmacy domain.
    • If you are currently seeking accreditation for the VIPPS program, you may wish to wait until you have received accreditation before seeking a .pharmacy domain. Please see the program section on the NABP website at www.nabp.pharmacy for more details.
  • Please note that if you do not use the browsers and versions as outlined below you may experience difficulties with the application. If you are experiencing difficulties, please contact custserv@safe.pharmacy.
    • Internet Explorer 10 and above
    • Chrome
    • Firefox 31 and above
  • The email you provide on the account creation page will be your username.
  • You will be unable to make additions or corrections to an application once it has been submitted to NABP.
  • If during the application evaluation process any information submitted on the .pharmacy application changes, NABP must be notified in writing within 48 hours. Submit changes via email to custserv@safe.pharmacy.
  • Application evaluation is expected to take 60 days in most instances. Please be aware that certain circumstances may delay the evaluation of your application. Circumstances include, but are not limited to:
    • High volume of license verifications;
    • Disciplinary and/or legal actions against the pharmacy, pharmacist-in-charge, the applicant business, owners/major investors, and/or any companies with which the applicant is related to via direct or indirect ownership;
    • Untraditional business models;
    • Incomplete information in the application;
    • Failure to notify NABP of changes/updates to the applicant website while NABP’s application and website review is in process; and/or a
    • Failure to provide a complete response to requests for supplemental information.
  • In addition, NABP is in the process of creating relationships with regulatory agencies outside of the United States. If a relationship has not been established in the country where your organization is located, there may be delays in processing your application. For more information about countries that NABP currently has relationships with, see FAQ #8.

Pharmacy​

Create Account Page

  • The .pharmacy application requires the applicant to create a user account. It is strongly recommended that the person completing the application is the individual who will serve as the pharmacy’s primary contact person during the application evaluation process.

Manage Applications

  • The Manage Applications page is where you can create new applications and edit applications that have not yet been submitted.
  • You will be asked to name each application you create.
  • You will have 60 days to complete and submit your application. If you do not submit your application within 60 days it will be automatically deleted from the system. A countdown of how many days remain will display for each application.

Check Domain Name Availability

  • The domain name lookup page will allow you to check to see if the .pharmacy domain name you would like is available.
    • Please note that to find out the domain registration fee charged by the registrar, you will need to go to the registrar’s website. Registrars who have been approved to sell .pharmacy domains are listed on the Participating Registrars page. Registration fees should not be confused with the application fee. For more information on application and domain registration fees, see the Fees and Pricing section.
  • Enter all the .pharmacy domain names for which you are seeking approval.
  • Domains are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • .Pharmacy domain names are only removed from the available pool once a token has been issued. Therefore, a .pharmacy domain name will show as available even if another applicant has requested that domain name, as long as their application has not yet been approved and a token issued. If any of your requested domains become unavailable after you have submitted your application you will be notified as soon as possible.

Statements of Agreement

  • The individual filling out the application must be authorized to agree to the statements provided on this page.

URLs of Websites to Be Evaluated

  • To be approved for .pharmacy domain names, you must submit the content of the website to NABP for review. This can be done by providing the URL of a live website or a staging site. Sites submitted for review must include the same content that will ultimately appear on the .pharmacy site(s).
  • Enter the full URL including the “www.” and the domain suffix (eg, .com, .net).
  • If at any time, before or after domain name approval, there are changes to the content that was evaluated, you must notify NABP within 15 days.
  • On this page you will also be asked if the pharmacy(ies) dispensing through the websites being evaluated ship prescription medications internationally, and if so, to which countries they ship.

Company Information

  • For each website that was provided in the “URLs of Websites to Be Evaluated” section, provide general information for the companies that own the websites and/or the facilities that fulfill orders for the websites. You also will be asked to specify whether the company is the owner of the website or the owner of the facilities fulfilling orders for the websites. The company may do both. Please provide the full legal name of the company.
  • Please note that license information for all companies and their corresponding facilities entered here will be asked for in the next section of the application.
  • Include all DBA and FKA information for the company. DBA means Doing Business As. FKA means Formerly Known As.

Upload Facility Information

  • Details on the dispensing facilities and pharmacists-in-charge/pharmacist manager/head pharmacist that are fulfilling orders for the websites being evaluated must be provided on this page. A .csv file format must be used. Once on the page, you will be provided a Facility Upload Template for download as well as Facility Upload Instructions for using the template.
  • Please note that only one file may be uploaded to this page. It is highly recommended you read the Facility Upload Instructions before submitting your file.
  • Information requested in the .csv document includes facility contact information, licenses held by the facilities, the name and location of the licensing agencies, and the corresponding pharmacists’ names, contact information, and their license information.
    • All licenses are required to be uploaded. This includes nonresident licensure/registration/permit, controlled substance registration, and other licenses listed under the Doing Business As name.
  • Once the Facility .csv file is completed, the document upload process is a three-step process as you must
    1. select the file,
    2. verify the file, and
    3. upload the file

    before you can move on to the next page of the application.

Parent Company

  • If you provided more than one company in your application, you will be asked to identify the parent company. You may either select from a drop-down menu of companies already identified or enter a new company.

Company Disciplinary/Legal History

  • You will be asked to provide disciplinary, criminal, and legal history for the company.
  • For any questions answered Yes, you will need to upload a document with explanatory details. Such documents would include, but are not limited to, government documents outlining the discipline, fines, etc; an explanation in your own words of what happened, how it was corrected, and steps taken to prevent it from happening again; or courts documents showing the rulings or outcomes.

Pharmacist Disciplinary/Legal History

  • You will be asked to provide disciplinary, criminal, and legal history for the pharmacist-in-charge.
  • For any questions answered Yes, you will need to upload a document with explanatory details. Such documents would include, but are not limited to, government documents outlining the discipline, fines, etc; an explanation in your own words of what happened, how it was corrected, and steps taken to prevent it from happening again; or court documents showing the rulings or outcomes.

Affiliated Website Information

  • Provide URLs for the following:
    • Other Domain Names Owned or Registered By Company – provide the URLs (web addresses) for all websites owned by your company that engage in health-related practice.
    • Websites Applicant’s Website Links to or Is Redirected to – provide the URLs (web addresses) for any websites that the applicant website redirects users to.

Testament

  • At the end of the application, before you submit payment, you will need to read and agree to Testament statements. You must be authorized to agree to this testament on behalf of the company(ies).

Payment

  • If the availability of any of your requested .pharmacy domains changes during the time it takes you to complete your application, you will be alerted before you submit payment. At that time you will have the opportunity to add a new .pharmacy domain name request.
  • The Payment page will display the total application fee. The application fee is based on the number of websites that must be evaluated for content. See the Fees and Pricing section for more details.
  • Payments must be made by credit card.
  • If your application fees total more than US$20,000 you will be directed to contact NABP for further instruction.
  • Once you hit the Pay button, your application will be submitted and you will see a confirmation page listing the .pharmacy domains you have requested and the total fees paid. This page will display each time you log back into the application. You may print this page for your records.
  • You will also receive an email confirming the submission of your application.

Incomplete Applications

  • Applications that are not submitted within 60 days will be deleted. All information saved on the application will be deleted. A new application will be needed if it is deleted as NABP is unable to restore the deleted application.
  • Applicants that submit an application but do not include all information applicable to the company seeking approval for a .pharmacy domain(s) will be contacted by NABP with a request to submit the information within 15 days. If the missing information is not completed within this time frame, the application will be denied and the application fees will not be refunded. Please see the Refund Policy for more information.

  • A .csv file format must be used. Once on the page, you will be provided a Campus Upload Template for download as well as Campus Upload Instructions for using the template.
  • Please note that only one file may be uploaded to this page. It is highly recommended you read the Campus Upload Instructions before submitting your file.
  • Information requested in the .csv document includes campus contact information, accreditations or licenses held by each campus, the name and location of the relevant agencies, and the deans’ names, contact information, and their license information (if applicable).
  • Once the Facility .csv file is completed, the document upload process is a three-step process as you must
    1. select the file,
    2. verify the file, and
    3. upload the file
    before you can move on to the next page of the application.

Parent Organization

  • If you provided both a URL owner and a pharmacy school/college, you will be asked to identify the parent/controlling institution for the organizations. You may either select from a drop-down menu of organizations already identified or enter a new organization.

Pharmacy School Disciplinary/Legal History

  • You will be asked to provide disciplinary, criminal, and legal history for the pharmacy school/college.
  • For any questions answered Yes, you will need to upload a document with explanatory details. Such documents would include, but are not limited to, government documents outlining the discipline, fines, etc; an explanation in your own words of what happened, how it was corrected, and steps taken to prevent it from happening again; or court documents showing the rulings or outcomes.

Dean Disciplinary/Legal History

  • Please note that only one file may be uploaded to this page. It is highly recommended you read the Contact Upload Instructions before submitting your file.
  • Information requested in the .csv document includes company contact information and licenses held.
  • Once the Contact .csv file is completed, the document upload process is a three-step process as you must
    1. select the file,
    2. verify the file, and
    3. upload the file
    before you can move on to the next page of the application.

Parent Company

  • If you provided more than one company in your application, you will be asked to identify the parent company. You may either select from a drop-down menu of companies already identified or enter a new company.

Company Disciplinary/Legal History

  • You will be asked to provide disciplinary, criminal, and legal history for the company.
  • For any questions answered Yes, you will need to upload a document with explanatory details. Such documents would include, but are not limited to, government documents outlining the discipline, fines, etc; an explanation in your own words of what happened, how it was corrected, and steps taken to prevent it from happening again; or court documents showing the rulings or outcomes.

Contact Disciplinary/Legal History

  • You will be asked to provide disciplinary, criminal, and legal history for the company contact.
  • For any questions answered Yes, you will need to upload a document with explanatory details. Such documents would include, but are not limited to, government documents outlining the discipline, fines, etc; an explanation in your own words of what happened, how it was corrected, and steps taken to prevent it from happening again; or court documents showing the rulings or outcomes.

Affiliated Website Information

  • Provide URLs for the following:
    • Other Domain Names Owned or Registered By Company – provide the URLs (web addresses) for all websites owned by your company that engage in pharmacy and prescription drug-related practices.
    • Websites Applicant’s Website Links to or Is Redirected to – provide the URLs (web addresses) for any websites that the applicant website redirects users to.

Testament

  • At the end of the application, before you submit payment, you will need to read and agree to Testament statements. You must be authorized to agree to this testament on behalf of the company(ies).

Payment

  • If the availability of any of your requested .pharmacy domains changes during the time it takes you to complete your application you will be alerted before you submit payment. At that time you will have the opportunity to add a new .pharmacy domain name request.
  • The Payment page will display the total application fee. The application fee is based on the number of websites that must be evaluated for content. See the Fees and Pricing section for more details.
  • Payments must be made by credit card.
  • If your application fees total more than US$20,000 you will be directed to contact NABP for further instruction.
  • Once you hit the Pay button, your application will be submitted and you will see a confirmation page listing the .pharmacy domains you have requested and the total fees paid. This page will display each time you log back into the application. You may print this page for your records.
  • You will also receive an email confirming the submission of your application.

Incomplete Applications

  • Applications that are not submitted within 60 days will be deleted. All information saved on the application will be deleted. A new application will be needed if it is deleted as NABP is unable to restore the deleted application.
  • Applicants that submit an application but do not include all information applicable to the company seeking approval for a .pharmacy domain(s) will be contacted by NABP with a request to submit the information within 15 days. If the missing information is not completed within this time frame the application will be denied and the application fees will not be refunded. Please see the Refund Policy for more information.
